My parents celebrated their 57th wedding anniversary this past weekend. 57 years!
Not only are they old, but now I feel old.
I remember when my two sisters and I rented the local community centre and threw a party for them for their 25th wedding anniversary.
That was so long ago, I had hair!
When I look at my own family life, I wonder how they did it with three kids.
They both worked in factories, my mother during the day and my father the afternoon shift, so someone would be home to look after us.
The two of them caught up with each other on the weekends.
No wonder it was hard on them when we all left home and they just had each other to live with.
They weren’t used to it.
Many times I find myself repeating the lines to my kids, they would say to us in frustration.
Lines like “because I said so” and “do what I say, not what I do.”
It’s often followed by an internal sigh and an” I can’t believe I just said that.”
Although, if it worked for them for 57 years, there must be something to it.
Who am I to say….I’ve only been married for 11?
I’m Scott Thompson.
