Joaquin Phoenix Plays the Unibomber On Letterman...

Feb 16, 2009 11:15 AM
Scott Thompson

Did you catch Joaquin Phoenix on David Letterman last week?  This is the guy who played Johnny Cash in the bio flick and has been nominated for a couple of Oscars.  Seems he may have been enjoying the pre-show cocktails or simply didn't time his drugs correctly.

Enjoy your Family Day!

Watch What You Drive Over!!

Feb 12, 2009 12:07 PM
Scott Thompson

Sent from a listener. Watch what you drive over...

In this case, a mattress!

Scott.

--------

Possible Root Cause,

A woman ran over a mattress and decided to keep going anyway.

The mattress got caught in the car's under belly

and finally whipped around enough to put a tear in the gas tank.

Leaking gas she still managed to drive the car for 30 more miles

decently, with a 60lb tangle wrapped around the driveshaft.
The subsequent lack of fuel is what finally

brought her vehicle to its knees.

After having her car towed to her dealer's garage,

she complained that the vehicle had a "shimmy"

when driving it at high speeds.

This is what the dealership found..............

Home of The New Stadium? Confederation Park!!

Feb 11, 2009 2:19 PM
Scott Thompson

Seems there was word going around yesterday that Confederation Park is back on the table as a possible site for the new stadium for the Pan Am games bid..
Which makes me ask the question,” Why was it not on the list for study in the first place?” Why was it taken off as a potential site? No one seems able or willing to answer that question.
The only thing different now is Bob Young is in the picture offering up some big Ticat cash.
Could it be money talks? And why wasn’t it talking before the site was pulled from the list?
Now we are getting word that a pool for McMaster is back on the table. Again why now? What has happened?
I’m sure some will say this is politics taking its course. I believe this is untrue. It is this sort of knee jerk reaction and re-introduction that I spoke of in my Spec column last week.
What this does is leave the citizens feeling that there is no one plan or one leader or one cause over seeing this bid. And like so many other projects like City Hall reno, Red Hill Creek, Lister Block etc. we cannot get on the same page and get the job done. There are MANY in this city who feel the potential is there but our leaders will spend so much time dilly dallying the project will be lost.
Like this listener below.
Still keeping the faith!

Scott, this is the only site that the jackasses (city council) should have on the table. If Bob Young wants to give 10`s of millions of dollars and he wants it to be built in my backyard then go ahead!!!!! I along with the rest of the Hamiltonians pay too much tax as it is and when we get the opportunity to have someone stand up with a check book and offer SHUT UP AND LISTEN!!!!

Hey Boys...V-Day Draws Near!!!

Feb 10, 2009 1:52 PM
Scott Thompson

Hey Boys
Just a little reminder Valentines Day is this Saturday.
Like you don’t already know…?
Perhaps your better half has been constantly reminding you or you see those ads on TV, either way you’re left with one of those “Geez something else I have to do!” pains in the pit of your stomach.
Advice….Get ‘er done now!
Why? Firstly, you’ll sleep better tonight.
Secondly. The next time your wife drops one of those 10kg. (not so subtle) hints, not only can you avoid breaking out into a sweat, inside you can wallow in the evil knowing your ‘arse’ is covered!
That’s enough right there!
Not to mention the ‘relations’ you’ll have that night.
If you need some inspiration, watch this JC Penny spot sent to me by Tuesday contributor to the Scott Thompson Show, Tom Cooper.
This man’s wife has a birthday on Feb 14th! Poor bastard!
Enjoy!

Who Say's Wii Can't Have Family Time???

Feb 9, 2009 12:48 PM
Scott Thompson

This was sent to me by a listener who either has kids or just spent the weekend with some.

My boy has just discovered the joy of opening and closing my briefcase, for ten minutes at a time. Which may explain why I always have to remember the combination now or am missing a pen or two.

Have fun

Scott's on Facebook...So???

Feb 5, 2009 1:34 PM
Scott Thompson

So I started a Facebook page the other day, although I’m not sure why?
I know why? Everybody said I should. Does that sound like a good reason?
I fumbled my way through the set up and now am on line.
Almost immediately I started getting email from people I have not heard from in years.
I’m now not sure what I should do?
If I wanted to be in contact with all these people I would be already, wouldn’t I?
Now it’s just easier to hear from people who I never really kept in touch with anyway?
No offence to anyone, as you can never have too many friends. What I don’t have is time!
I already host a page on the CHML website and my own personal website which you can find more about on my Facebook page.
Hey that’s it! I started my Facebook page to help people find both of these sites. Sound like a good idea?
Then why do I feel more swamped now then ever before?
Are you on Facebook? Why?
How much time do you spend on it a week?
Perhaps these are questions I should have asked before setting up the page?
Thoughts?

Have You Had Enough Snow???

Feb 4, 2009 11:39 AM
Scott Thompson

This is the time of the year when most Candians can be heard saying, "Enough already!"

Be happy you're not living in Saskatchewan where you can drive your snowmobile right up to your second floor bedroom window. Wiarton Willy says 6 more weeks of winter.  Enjoy!

Maybe It's Not The Politicians Who Are Dysfunctional...Is It The Citizens???

Feb 3, 2009 10:10 AM
Scott Thompson

I have accused City Hall of being dysfunctional of late for not being able to see the light and get the job done. Maybe it’s the citizens who are dysfunctional NOT the politicians.
Below is a note from a man who goes on to say Hamilton will always be a ‘run down’ city. With citizens like this no wonder nothing can get done. Although he could be upset because he lives in Freelton. Read the two notes below…
Scott
--------
Message: Date: Sun, Feb 1 re: My Take 31 Jan Spectator Pan Am Scam Mr. Thompson: Do you live in a bubble? Ambitious City,Free Money??? Where do you think that Free Money comes from??? A totally idiotic statement. hamilton (yes, small 'h') has already wasted over 1/4 Million Dollars on a variety of losing games bids and their mythical "ripple effect benefits". I have lived in this area 25 years and never heard the word ambitious used in the same sentence as hamilton. Lots of other adjectives.......... It took 30 years to pay off the Montreal Olympics deal and now Vancouver is on a cost tightrope with as always, Ratepayers stuck with the predictable over budget costs. The Pan Am timeline is perfect. Council should take 5 minutes and just say a Resounding NO!!! It is very likely that steel making in hamilton will be gone in 5 years (likely 3) or less. A huge tax base already seriously eroded. Sewers, Roads, Bridges, Hospitals and Social Services are starving for dollars and people like you with no logic or foresight want to squander money on fountains, bridges to no where and 'waterfront' projects. You 'envision' parks, bike paths, restaurants but miss the most important thing... PARKING. That's why downtown will always be a dead zone. Little affordable parking. There is no such thing as Free Money The Economy is still in free fall and this is NOT the time to WASTE Tax Dollars on wild dreams. Thousands of people avoid going to hamilton with good reason. A Stadium is a self serving extravaganza suiting only a very small percentage of the populace. Council needs to concentrate on practical projects which serve the Majority, not cater to private teams and interests. This is not 1930. What is guaranteed is that hamilton will be lucky to hold its' own the next few years. Waste now-pay forever. G. Baker Freelton

----------
Then came this email….I love the line that says Hamilton will always be a ‘run down’ city…This guy hates Hamilton. Read on…He’s on a negative roll!
Scott.
----------

You didn't read my letter very carefully.
Same page? I am chapters ahead of you.
I told You that steel will likely be gone in 5 years or less! It has not been dead for 10 years.

Hamilton will always be a rundown town like St. Thomas is to London, Wallaceburg to Sarnia, Dresden to Chatham etc.

A fancy Stadium being dropped on the backs of Taxpayers will not even begin to revive hamilton.
Neither will a waterfront project, fountain or other pie in the sky BS.
Hamilton council spends its time dreaming up ways to squeeze the taxpayer with more and more rules - from signs, garbage containers, pesticides, and other mickey mouse stuff instead of forging forward with incentives to industry etc.
You rebuild from the Bottom up. Tearing down the decrepit and abandoned buildings, fixing infrastructure (that is roads, underground plant, user friendly mini parks, getting rid of or transforming trashy neighbourhoods, More parking.

HSS is great, but will not bring hamilton back. You rave like an left wing NDP.

I recently read that All of the cities that bid for 'Games' of any kind are in debt over it.
Don't wish that on hamilton.
Jack will always be a jerk, he recently proved that at the Federal level. He was however right about the Games. Toronto would still be paying for them.
Logical beats dreams at the Bottom Line and that is what really matters.
Have a shot of realism.
I am not wrong.
Gord.
--------

You need a shot of something stronger and then perhaps a 'lie down' until the negativity goes away!

"NDP"?  that's funny!   Thanks for your 'ol stories!

Enough about Me. What about you???

The great thing about blogging is it gives me the opportunity to interact with people one on one while the rest watch.  It seems people have more to say when you can't see them.  I'm not sure if that's good or bad.

This blog will cover everything from everyday life to world issues.  From NASCAR to politics.  However we ain't splitting the atom here.  The most important thing is hearing from YOU!
