Congratulations to 14 year old Annaleise Carr of Walsh Ontario.
She completed her 27 hour 52 km swim across Lake Ontario last night just before 9pm after leaving Niagara on the Lake on Saturday.
Annaleise touched the break wall at Toronto’s Marilyn Bell Park, a park named in honour of the first person to complete the feat back in 1954.
Many have done it since.
A crowd was on hand to welcome her although certainly not the 300,000 who gathered back in 1954.
Marilyn Bell was given a $10,000. prize from the C.N.E. for the challenge plus a car, TV, clothing, and furniture.
Annaleise, nothing, but has raised over $80,000. for Camp Trillium.
Carr is youngest to swim Lake Ontario.
To have the dedication, perseverance and guts to attempt the journey at any age is remarkable but to be successful at 14 is truly inspiring.
And when I think of my kids, seems impossible without some sort of portable waterproof video gaming device dangling in front of them.
I’m Scott Thompson.
